Additional information
Age: Upper Ypresian (former Cuisian); outcrops of this rock are located in the centre of the Paris Basin, extending from the north-east of l’Île-de-France to the south of the Aisne river. More precisely, two localized outcrops gave the rock its denomination: the first area is located around Fosses, Bellefontaine and Luzarches (Department of Val d’Oise, France) and the second area around Belleu and Soissons (Department of Aisne, France); the rock derives from marine deposits affected by a fluviatile system during the Upper Ypresian. A lithification of Cuisian sands resulted in the formation of local discontinuous quarzitic sandstone beds. The degree of cementation can vary strongly (Lepareux-Couturier et al., 2017)
