Comparable thin section(s)
Matrix
Oxidised brown fabric; brown (PPL), black with darkbrown edge (XP).
Semi-homogenous matrix, non-calcerous with no to low optical activity.
- ca. 40-55%
Inclusions
Quartz (++; mono+, poly-), sedimentary rock detritus (+; quartz arenite), chert/flint (+), metamorphic rock detritus (?; low grade), feldspars (+-; plagioclase, microcline), muscovite mica (--; eq, cf), glauconite (++; red body color), O/Fe (+), clay pellets/semi-plastics (+), organic matter (-).
The coarse fraction consists of fine to medium sand, the fine fraction consists of very fine to fine sand. Grains are generally rounded to subangular. Overall the fabric is moderately to poorly sorted and moderately to poorly orientated, close to single spaced.
- ca. 30-40%
Voids
Many vughs in various sizes, moderately aligned, no infill.
- ca. 15-20%
Diagnostic features
The fabric is characterized by a semi-homogeneous oxidised matrix with no to low optical activity and high porosity. Dominant quartz and glauconite inclusions with frequent sedimentary and possibly metamorphic rock detritus, chert/flint, opaques/iron oxides and clay pellets/semi-plastics, common feldspars, few organic matter and rare muscovite mica. Overall moderately poor sorted fabric.
