Matrix
Reduced grey fabric with fine dark edge; browngrey (PPL), dark brown (XP).
Semi-homogenous matrix, non-calcareous with no optical activity.
- ca. 45-60%
Inclusions
Quartz (++; cf: mono, r, medium - coarse sand; ff: mono, poly, r-sr, very fine to fine sand; bimodal), sedimentary rock detritus (+-; possible quartz arenite), chert/flint (+-), muscovite mica (+; eq & el, ff & cf), feldspars (--; plagioclase, orthoclase: ff, r, weathered), glauconite (+; red to brown in PPL, r, ff), pyroxene (--; r, ff), O/Fe (+; ff & cf), semi-plastics/clay pellets (+-; iron-rich)
The coarse fraction varies from coarse to medium sand, the fine fraction from fine sand to very fine sand. Coarse fraction grains are generally rounded, fine fraction grains are generally rounded to subrounded. Bimodality of all inclusions (natural). Overall the fabric is moderately to poorly sorted.
- ca. 30-40%
Voids
Small planar voids and vughs with circular alignment (round cross-section), no infill. Drying cracks in and around semi-plastics/clay pellets.
- ca. 10-15%
Diagnostic features
The fabric is characterized by a semi-homogenous reduced matrix with no optical activity and moderate porosity. Dominant quartz inclusions with frequent muscovite mica, glauconite and opaques/iron oxides, common sedimentary rock detritus, chert/flint and semi-plastics/clay pellets, and rare feldspars and pyroxene. Bimodality most likely from sandy clay (no temper). Overall moderately to poorly sorted.
Additional information
Similar mineralogical profile as A0011 and A0012, but prepared and fired differently. Probably same clay source.
