Clay extraction pit (?) with ceramic wasters (S38, find inventory number 58). This particular site is part of a larger project: Fluxys – tracé Alveringem-Maldegem Deelzone Lot 1&2 Lo-Reninge - Staden. Permit code: 2014/286 en 286 (2).
Reduced and oxidized dark brown to redbrown fabric; light and dark brown (PPL), dark brown (XP).
Semi-heterogeneous matrix, non-calcareous with low to medium optical activity.

Inclusions
Quartz (++; mono, poly, cf: r-sr, ff: sr-sa, silt - medium sand, coarse sand outlier, weathering, alteration), sedimentary rock detritus (+-; r, possible quartz arenite), chert/flintstone (+-; r), muscovite mica (+; el, ff), feldspars (+; plagioclase: r, cf), amphibole/pyroxene (--; r, ff), O/Fe (+), semi-plastics/clay pellets (+; iron-rich).
The coarse fraction varies from coarse to fine sand, the fine fraction from very fine sand to silt. Grain are generally subrounded to rounded, subangular grains observed in the fine fraction. Overall the fabric is poorly sorted.
- ca. 40-50%
Voids
Small planar voids and larger vughs with good alignment parallel to the edge, no infill. Drying cracks in and around semi-plastics/clay pellets.
- ca. 10-15%
Diagnostic features
The fabric is characterized by a semi-heterogeneous red-ox matrix with low to medium optical activity and moderate porosity. Dominant quartz inclusions with frequent sedimentary rock detritus, chert/flintstone, muscovite mica, feldspars, opaques/iron oxides and semi-plastics/clay pellets, and rare amphibole/pyroxene. Overall poorly sorted.
