Matrix
Oxidised red fabric; light to dark brown (PPL), darkbrown to black (XP).
Homogenous matrix, non-calcerous with low optical activity.
- ca. ?%
Inclusions
Quartz (++; mono+, poly-, weathering and alteration), sedimentary rock detritus (+; quartz arenite), chert/flint (+), metamorphic rock detritus (+; low grade and high grade), feldspars (++; plagioclase, microcline, weathering and alteration), muscovite mica (-; el), glauconite (--; red body color), pryoxene/biotite (--), O/Fe (-), clay pellets/semi-plastics (-; iron-rich).
The inclusions range from (very) fine to medium sand sizes in a silt-rich clay. Probably natural distribution. Grains are generally rounded to subrounded. Overall the fabric is moderately sorted and poorly orientated, close to single spaced.
- ca. ?%
Voids
Many planar/channel and vughs, well aligned, some infill.
- ca. ?%
Diagnostic features
The fabric is characterized by a homogeneous oxidised matrix with low optical activity and ? porosity. Dominant quartz and feldspars inclusions with frequent sedimentary and metamorphic rock detritus, chert/flint, few muscovite mica, opaques/iron oxides and clay pellets/semi-plastics, and rare glauconite and possible pyroxene or biotite. Overall moderately sorted fabric.
Additional information
Partial glaze layer on surface: clear-translucent in PPL.
