Majolica (oxidized) white-yellow fabric; dark brown (PPL), dark brown (XP).
Homogenous matrix, non-calcareous with no optical activity.
- ca. 55-70%
Inclusions
Quartz (++; mono+, poly-), sedimentary rock detritus (+-; quartz arenite), chert (-), metamorphic rock detritus (-; low grade), feldspars (-; plagioclase), muscovite mica (+-; el), O/Fe (+-).
The coarse fraction consists of medium sand, the fine fraction consists of fine sand, bimodal distribution. Grains are generally rounded to subrounded. Overall the fabric is poorly sorted and poorly orientated, single to double spaced.
- ca. 20-30%
Voids
Many vughs of various sizes, drying cracks, no infill, well aligned.
- ca. 10-15%
Diagnostic features
The fabric is characterized by a homogenous oxidized matrix with no optical activity and moderately high porosity. Dominant quartz inclusions with common sedimentary rock detritus, muscovite mica and opaques/iron oxides, few chert, metamorphic rock detritus and feldspars. Overall poorly sorted fabric.
