Matrix
Oxidised red fabric; brown (PPL), dark brown (XP).
Semi-heterogeneous matrix, non-calcareous with no to low optical activity.
- ca. 60-70%
Inclusions
Quartz (++; mono+, poly-, weathered and altered, cf: r-sr, fine to medium sand, ff: sr-sa, very fine to fine sand, naturally bimodal), sedimentary rock detritus (+-; quartz arenite), chert/flint (+-), feldspars (+-; plagioclase, microcline, orthoclase, r-sr, cf & ff), muscovite mica (+-; eq & el, cf & ff), glauconite (+: r, cf, red body color), amphibole/pyroxene (-; r, ff), O/Fe (+), clay pellets (-), organic matter (-; plant and possible single bone inclusion).
The coarse fraction consists of fine to medium sand, the fine fraction consists of fine to very fine sand. Grains are generally rounded to subangular. Overall the fabric is moderately sorted and moderately orientated, single to double spaced.
- ca. 20-25%
Voids
Many small planar voids and few larger vughs, well aligned, some infill.
- ca. 10-15%
Diagnostic features
The fabric is characterized by a semi-heterogeneous oxidised matrix with no to low optical activity and moderate porosity. Dominant quartz inclusions with frequent glauconite and opaques/iron oxides, common sedimentary rock detritus, chert/flint, feldspars and muscovite mica, few amphibole/pyroxene, clay pellets and organic matter. Overall moderately sorted fabric.
Additional information
Possible addition of glauconitic sand, unclear.
