Matrix
Reduced fabric: light grey core and grey edge; dark grey (PPL), dark grey to black (XP).
Homogenous matrix, non calcareous without optical activity.
- ca. 40-50%
Inclusions
Quartz (++; mono, poly, r-sr, silt - medium sand, weathering, alteration, intergrowth), feldspars (+; plagioclase; sr-r, cf), muscovite mica (+; el, ff), O/Fe (+), biotite/hornblende (-; uncertain: colorless in PPL, bright green (2nd order) in XP, r, fine sand, no internal structure visible), amphibole/pyroxene (possible singular grain), ooid (singular inclusion).
The coarse fraction varies from medium to fine sand, the fine fraction from very fine sand to silt. Grains are generally sub-rounded to rounded. Overall the fabric is moderate to poorly sorted.
- ca. 40-50%
Voids
Small vughs and planar voids, well aligned parallel to edge, no infill.
- ca. 5-10%
Diagnostic features
The fabric is characterized by a homogenous reduced matrix with no optical activity and low porosity. Dominant quartz inclusions with frequent feldspars, muscovite mica and common opaques/iron oxides, few possible biotite/hornblende, rare amphibole/pyroxene (?) and ooid. Overall moderately to poorly sorted.
Additional information
Bright green (xp) minerals are most likely hornblende or biotite mica (5 grains counted). Also observed in A0004 and A0005.
