Matrix
Reduced fabric: grey core and browngrey edge; dark grey (PPL), black (XP).
Homogenous matrix, non calcareous without optical activity.
- ca. 45-60%
Inclusions
Quartz (++; mono, poly, r-sr, silt - medium sand, weathering, alteration), sedimentary rock detritus (+-; possible quartz arenite), feldspars (-; plagioclase; sr-r, ff & cf, weathering/alteration), O/Fe (+-), amphibole/pyroxene (-; r, ff & cf), semi-plastics/clay pellets (+-; iron-rich inclusion-poor).
The coarse fraction varies from medium to fine sand, the fine fraction from very fine sand to silt. Grains are generally sub-rounded to rounded. Overall the fabric is moderately to poorly sorted.
- ca. 30-40%
Voids
Varying sizes of planar voids and vughs, well aligned parallel to edge, no infill, drying cracks around semi-plastics/clay pellets.
- ca. 10-15%
Diagnostic features
The fabric is characterized by a homogenous reduced matrix with no optical activity and moderate porosity. Dominant quartz inclusions with common sedimentary rock, opaques/iron oxides and semi-plastics/clay pellets, few feldspars and amphibole/pyroxene. Overall moderate to poorly sorted.
