Matrix
Oxidized fabric with brown core and light brown edges; light brown (PPL), brown (XP).
Homogenous matrix, non-calcareous with high optical activity.
- ca. 60-70%
Inclusions
Quartz (++; mono+, poly-), sedimentary rock detritus (+-; quartz arenite), chert (+-), metamorphic rock detritus (+-; low grade), feldspars (--; orthoclase, plagioclase), muscovite mica (--; eq), O/Fe (+-), CP/SP (-; iron-rich CP-, large SP--).
The inclusions range from fine to medium sand sizes and represent a sand temper added to a fine clay. Grains are generally rounded to subrounded. Overall the fabric is poorly sorted and moderately orientated, single to double spaced.
- ca. 20-25%
Voids
Small planar/channel voids, few larger vughs, no infill, well aligned.
- ca. 10-15%
Diagnostic features
The fabric is characterized by a homogenous oxidized matrix with high optical activity and moderate porosity. Dominant quartz inclusions with common sedimentary and metamorphic rock detritus, chert and opaques/iron oxides, few clay pellets/semi-plastics, and rare feldspars and muscovite mica. Mineral inclusions derive from added sand temper. Overall poorly sorted fabric.
Additional information
Different fabric from A0035/A0036.
