Comparable thin section(s)
Matrix
Reduced grey fabric; darkbrown/grey (PPL), black (XP).
Semi-homogenous matrix, non-calcerous with no optical activity in the core and medium optical activity in the edges.
- ca. 50-65%
Inclusions
Quartz (++; mono+, poly-, cf: r-sa, fine to medium/coarse sand, ff: r-sa, very fine to fine sand, unimodal), sedimentary rock detritus (+; quartz arenite), chert/flint (+), metamorphic rock detritus (+-; low grade), feldspars (+; plagioclase, microcline, cf & ff, weathering and alteration), muscovite mica (+; eq & el, cf & ff), amphibole/pyroxene (--; r, cf, weathered), O/Fe (+), clay pellets/semi-plastics (+-; iron-rich and iron-poor, various sizes).
The coarse fraction consists of fine to medium/coarse sand, the fine fraction consists of very fine to fine sand. Grains are generally rounded to subangular. Overall the fabric is very poorly to poorly sorted and poorly orientated, single to double spaced.
- ca. 20-30%
Voids
Many small planar voids and few larger vughs, well aligned, some secondary calcite infill.
- ca. 15-20%
Diagnostic features
The fabric is characterized by a semi-homogeneous reduced matrix with no to medium optical activity and moderately high porosity. Dominant quartz inclusions with frequent sedimentary rock detritus, chert/flint, feldspars, muscovite mica and opaques/iron oxides, common metamorphic rock detritus and clay pellets/semi-plastics, and rare amphibole/pyroxene. Overall very poorly sorted fabric.
