Matrix
Oxidised orange-red fabric; brown (PPL), dark brown (XP).
Semi-heterogeneous matrix, non-calcerous with low optical activity.
- ca. 40-55%
Inclusions
Quartz (++; mono+, poly--, weathering and alteration), sedimentary rock detritus (-; quartz arenite, weathering and alteration), chert/flint (-), feldspars (--; plagioclase, microcline), muscovite mica (+-; el & eq), glauconite (-; red body color), O/Fe (+), clay pellets (-; iron-rich, one possible grog fragment).
The coarse fraction consists of medium to coarse sand, the fine fraction consists of very fine to fine sand. Grains are generally rounded to subangular. Overall the fabric is well sorted and moderately orientated, close to single spaced.
- ca. 40-50%
Voids
Large vughs, drying cracks, moderately aligned, some soil infill.
- ca. 5-10%
Diagnostic features
The fabric is characterized by a semi-heterogeneous oxidised matrix with low optical activity and low porosity. Dominant quartz inclusions with frequent opaques/iron oxides, common muscovite mica, few sedimentary rock detritus, chert/flint, glauconite and iron-rich clay pellets, and rare feldspars. Overall well sorted fabric.
